congatec adds single-board computers and ODM services to its offering

Deggendorf, Germany, 13 May 2014  * * *  congatec AG, a leading manufacturer of embedded computer modules, announces that the company is diversifying to ensure continued annual growth of more than 20% in the long term. The addition of single-board computers and ODM services signals a change in strategy that will help serve existing customers better and address new customer groups.

According to an IHS study  from 2013, congatec is the number 1 provider of Computer-on-Modules (COMs) in Europe since 2012. The company will now transfer their recognized know-how in embedded computer technology to the area of single-board computers (SBCs). The first form factor will be Mini-ITX boards, equipped with congatec’s industry-proven technology. The market for professional and industrial Mini-ITX boards is very large and continues to offer high growth rates.

In parallel with the product expansion, congatec is adding ODM services to its offering in order to realize project-specific customer requirements. This may include the development of carrier boards or cooling solutions, full-custom designs or even complete and fully tested systems that are provided with all necessary approvals.

Bernd Hacker, VP Sales & Marketing, explains: “The additional board products and ODM services are a logical progression for congatec. Both new offerings are built on our solid technology – the existing know-how is applied broadly. While this is a relatively small step for us internally, to the outside world it means a major expansion of our offering. This diversification gives congatec a stronger market presence and ensures continued stable growth in medium to long term.”

The first Mini-ITX board to be launched in the congatec Professional Line is the conga-IGX, which is based on AMD Embedded G-Series SOC technology. The Professional Line is characterized by advanced functionality and guaranteed product availability of seven years.

The first products in the Industrial Line, which are additionally optimized for the industrial temperature range and 24/7 operation, will be available in the second half of this year.

Both product lines enable developers to bring new product ideas to market quickly using the latest technologies.

congatec CEO Gerhard Edi concludes: “Now that we have successfully achieved market leadership for embedded computer modules in Europe, the time is right to branch out into the embedded SBC market. This market is considered difficult because Mini-ITX boards are easily exchangeable. That is however nothing new for us, since COMs are equally interchangeable between manufacturers by definition. Our success is founded on our technical support, our product quality and customer orientation.”
