Highest Graphics Performance ever offered by a XTX Embedded Computer Module

conga-X965: High Performance Graphics based on Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor and the Intel® Mobile Express Chipset GM965

Deggendorf, May 25, 2007 – congatec AG announces the conga-X965, todays fastest Embedded Computer-Module. This design is geared around the brand-new Intel® GME 945 platform, the conga X965 offers approximately 20% more computing performance while increasing graphics performance to nearly 150%.
There will be a live demonstration of the new conga-X965 at the AMI booth (1129~1132) during the Computex tradeshow in Taipei from June 5 to 9.

The conga X965 supports processors up to the Intel® Core 2 Duo L7500 1.6 GHz with 800 MHz frontside bus. Both 64 bit cores of this processor can access the common 4 MByte L2 cache. conga-X965 is capable of supporting up to 2 GByte DDR2 667 (PC5300) RAM.

This embedded computer module is based on the newest Intel® chipset the GM965, which features the new GMA X3100 graphics engine. The graphics performance is raised by 50% when compared to its predecessor. Many graphics oriented applications, which in the past had to use fast external graphic chips, will now profit from this new engine.

The processor is created using Intel's 65 nm manufacturing process while the chipset has 90 nm structure size. This platform provides an excellent computing performance to power consumption ratio. The maximum power consumption of the conga-X965 is about 30 Watt. Due to the aggressive and adaptive power management features found within the congatec embedded BIOS, the graphics engine, the frontside bus and memory bus are clocked down when less computing performance is required. Therefore, maximum power consumption will rarely be achieved in real life applications. It can be compared with the fuel consumption of a car, which depends entirely on the way it is driven. That said, power consumption of modern computer platforms is directly dependent on how the software application drives the overall system. The performance of the conga-X965 is provided on a need-be basis and is never waisted. The end result is that it offers superb power savings without sacrificing computing performance.

The conga-X965 provides 4 PCI Express lanes, 6 USB 2.0, HDA digital audio, 3 serial ATA and the signals for up to 2 ExpressCards. All congatec system extensions, such as ACPI battery management, multi stage watchdog timer, fast multimaster I²C bus and the congatec embedded BIOS features are implemented.

The conga-X965 can be equipped optionally with a “Trusted Platform Module“ (TPM). This TPM includes coprocessors to calculate efficient hash and RSA algorithms. Security sensitive applications such as gaming and e-commerce will benefit also from improved authentication, integrity and confidence levels.

The Intel GMA X3100 graphics controller is integrated in the chipset and is able to drive two independent graphic channels using 2x24 Bit LVDS, SDVO or analog VGA. Flat panel displays are automatically recognized and configured using EPI (Embedded Panel Interface).

Intel's virtualization technology allows multiple operating systems and applications to be executed simultaneously on independent CPU cores and partitions. Fully supported hypervisor software can be provided by a company called Real-Time Systems (http://www.real-time-systems.com).

The conga-X965 is available for mass production starting Q4/2007. Engineering samples will be available Q3/2007.
